I've been slacking in the beauty department on this blog lately. I wanted to share my foundation routine that I've been doing the past couple months. I switched over to this foundation ( Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid) after using a series of drug store foundations, and I will likely never use anything else. A friend of mine swears by this, and I gave it a try over the winter. I can honestly say it gives great coverage and an flawless finish. I decided to show photos of me doing my foundation, typically I don't sit on my couch with a palette mirror...I do it in the bathroom, but for the purpose of the blog post I made some compromises. You're also going to see me sans makeup. I thought it would be helpful so you could get an idea of the before and after.
This is typically what I follow in spring, winter and fall. Once summer rolls around I seldom wear foundation because I like my freckles, and I'm mostly wearing sunscreen on my face. But I will have to switch to a darker colour so that I can wear foundation if I have a special night or day planned.
So...if you want to see how I apply my foundation, keep reading, and if not, I recommend giving this product a shot. I know I've mentioned it before, but I promise you won't regret buying it. It makes your skin look so smooth and the argan oil helps keep it healthy and gives it a nice glow. It is slightly oily as you go throughout your day, but I just use some oil blotting sheets or even toilet paper to matte it. Otherwise it's so amazing.
I've linked all the products I use in the widget above, and I explain each step below!
above: here I am...no makeup except for eyebrows because I needed to keep some of my dignitiy. The night before I usually either use a face serum. Depending on the day, I'll either use my favourite vitamin C serum or I'll Sheiseido Power Infusing Concentrate to ensure my face is bright and fresh in the morning. I always follow my regular skin care routine, which you read HERE. Before I put on foundation, I always apply Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer. It has SPF 15 in it, which is super important.
above: next I use Hourglass Veil mineral primer. I was never really a primer user until I realized it would be the answer to disgusting creased eyelids. lol. I would be at work and then have somewhere to go after work and my eyes would look terrible. This primer is the solution. It's expensive, and I'm sure you can find cheaper primers that work just as well, but the silicone based primers don't work for me and I hate the way they feel. This stuff feels amazing on your skin. I find that I get much less creasing with my foundation and my eyes. I put it under my eyes and my eyelids, although I'm sure you could benefit from putting it on other areas as well.
above: after my face is ready, I move onto the actual foundation. I don't use my fingers! Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil foundation has a pump on the bottle, which is so awesome! I usually put a few drops on a small foundation brush. I can't tell you guys enough how much I love this foundation. I love that it has argan oil in it. Your face needs to produce oil to slow down the process of aging, and argan oil is a great little assist. Having it in my foundation is a win, along with the other serums and lotions I use to help my skin produce oil. It sounds annoying, but you're not making your skin look oily - it's just going to be dewy and healty.
above: Most of the photos in this post are super jokes, especially this one lol. Bryon and I were dying when we were taking these. I basically paint the foundation onto my face where needed with the brush.
above: And then I start blending! I use a damp (it must be damp!) Beautyblender to blend my foundation. I make sure to get along jawline and up to my hairline as well. Once it's all blended in, I give it a moment to oxidize. This foundation does need to oxidize, so you mean want to get colour matched at Sephora or wherever you purchase it from.
above: other glamour shot of me...concealer is last! Love love love Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer by IT Cosmetics. I do a few dots under my eyes, on the stop of my nose and then a little in my t-zone to brighten my face. I use a damp beauty blender to blend it in. If you live in Canada, you have to order this from the States...because we don't have it here. But it's worth dealing with the shipping, it also lasts forever. I've had my tiny bottle for almost 2 years. Not even kidding. After I finish off with a dusting of THIS bronzer, just where the sun hits my face. And that's it!
